| Passiflora caerulea |
|
One of nature's wonders, these attractive, vigorous vines produce breathtakingly complex and beautiful flowers. Beginning blooming in July and continuing until frost, these spectacular flowers will enliven your yard and inspire you and your friends and neighbors. We have many years of experience with Blue Crown and Maypop Passionflowers and can testify to their hardiness in our region. While our other unique varieties are reportedly hardy, we suggest planting them in a protected location and mulching thickly if severe cold threatens. Maypop can be grown in much colder regions than the Pacific Northwest.

Blue Crown A beautiful, fast growing, and hardy vine, Blue Crown produces spectacular, bluish-white flowers which begin blooming in July and continue until hard frost. An added treat is the attractive, egg shaped, yellow fruit which is, unfortunately, not edible. Blue Crown is evergreen to about 15º F. and will freeze to the ground at about 10º F. Mulching during severe cold will help insulate the roots. 9262 |

Maypop An attractive and very hardy perennial vine native to the Eastern U.S., Maypop produces abundant, showy, pinkish purple flowers from July until frost. Maypop is the only hardy Passionflower that bears an edible fruit. Maypop fruits are greenish yellow with the delicious and sprightly taste of tropical Passionfruit. As with other perennials, Maypop freezes to the ground in autumn and regrows, flowers and fruits the following season. It is called Maypop because it pops out of the ground in May (sometimes June). 9277 |
